Churros y chocolate

Last night, as we sat outside after a delicious dinner, and a desert of the greatest churros ever made, we didn’t notice the rainclouds forming. However when they burst and the water began to pour down upon us, we sprinted for cover. It took us a minute to realize that even better than trying to take cover from the rain was running through it. Gutters poured streams of water from the roof into the courtyard and, for a good 45 minutes, we ran through and challenged each other to see how long they could stay under the pounding stream of water. After such a wonderful night, we fully expected things to go downhill the next morning in terms of excitement. We were very mistaken. For our school trip today, we explored the most expansive and exciting markets that I have ever seen or heard about.  Whether it was the lower prices, the delicious smells of cooking food, or the exciting Mexican products being sold, none of us could resist spending at least a few pesos. After returning to casa Carmen for lunch (a delicious lentil soup, specialty casserole, and a cactus salad) we took a nap to recharge for our afternoon soccer game. The soccer, as it was the past times we played, was fun. Even those of us, such as I, who aren’t exactly gifted in the art of soccer playing, had an amazing time. Now as we wait patiently (sort of) for dinner we have a chance to reflect upon our day and cross our fingers that sky will split open once again tonight.

In praise of churros

Anoche, cuando estábamos sentados después de una cena buenísima y los mejores churros del mundo, no notamos las nubes que se estaban formando. Sin embargo, cuando empezó a llover, nosotros sí lo notamos inmediatamente.  Buscamos refugio, pero después nos dimos cuenta de que la lluvia era divertida.  Por aproximadamente cuarenta y cinco minutos, jugamos bajo la lluvia. Después de una noche tan emocionante, dormimos muy bien. Para nuestro viaje de la escuela hoy por la mañana, exploramos los mercados más grandes y emocionantes que he visto.  No sé si eran los precios baratos, los olores deliciosos de la comida, o los productos mexicanos que vendían, pero ninguno de nosotros pudo resistir la tentación de gastar dinero.  Después de volver a Casa Carmen para el almuerzo (una sopa deliciosa de lentejas, una cazuela especial de la casa y una ensalada de nopales), tomamos una siesta para “recargar las baterías” para nuestro partido de fútbol en la tarde.  El fútbol, como antes, fue muy divertido.  Ahora nosotros estamos esperando la cena y esperamos que haya otro aguacero.
